The American Nurses Association reports that New England has the highest concentration of nurses relative to population, with 1,107 RNs per 100,000 people.
The ANA also reported that over half of nurses are married.
The ANA reported that over half of nurses have children.
The US Health Resources and Service Administration reported that an RN’s average age in 1980 was 40 years old. Now a career in nursing is held by someone nearly 47 years old. This is a concern as many believe nurses will retire en masse and require replacements.
The HRSA estimates that the nation’s nursing shortage would reach over one million by 2020. Every state in the country will start feeling the shortage.
