Sensational information has been made public about how the most secret operation of Israel was being prepared, stunning the imagination in its scale, and ingenious in its audacity.

The most complex and large-scale operation in the history of Israel - it seems absolutely incredible. Its essence was to take out 2 million people from the vast territory of the state of the USSR. By the way, the organizers considered the project quite realistic in terms of implementation.

Journalist Avi Kfiri published an article in which he described in some detail a little-known fact of how Israel planned to carry out - the largest-scale evacuation in history - two million Jews from the collapsing state of the USSR.

In the early 90s, Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir planned a large-scale operation during which 2 million Jews from the USSR were to be rescued with the help of IDF soldiers. It is worth noting that the operation had to take place as soon as possible.

"Du-Ofan" ("Two-wheeler") - the name of the operation, in honor of the motorcycle that belonged to one of the participants in the secret meetings. The frivolous name of the operation has nothing to do with the serious task that the government has set itself - to save the lives of Soviet Jews in the face of the threat of the complete collapse of the USSR.

Preparations for the operation were classified as "secret"; a very limited circle of people were aware of this case. It took two years to organize everything. The organizing team (representatives of the Mossad, Nativ and the IDF) thought through the smallest details, such as collecting, maintaining and transporting a huge number of people who live in a vast territory.

Ami Morag, a brigadier general, one of the organizers of the operation, said that they planned to transport Soviet Jews to Israel by air, sea and land, through the territory of Turkey. Specialist herself. the operation was to be completed within six months, in the event of additional emergencies in the USSR, the operation should have been accelerated several times. The Israeli leadership was deeply concerned about the fate of Jews from Ukraine, Lithuania, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Armenia and the Caucasus.

Yitzhak Shamir was sure that because of the chaos that engulfed the crumbling Soviet empire, a new Holocaust would inevitably come. He considered it his duty to prevent the extermination of the Jews. Fortunately, his dire predictions did not come true.

In 1992, the team involved in the preparation of Operation Du-ofan was disbanded, as it turned out that it was no longer necessary to send Israeli soldiers to save Soviet Jews. The situation that developed after the collapse of the USSR was not recognized as critical and it was rightly decided that the Jews would survive on their own.
