OMON rescued a man who wanted to jump from a lighting mast

Today, employees of the Minsk OMON rescued a man who was trying to jump off a lighting tower, BelTA learned from the press service of the Central Internal Affairs Directorate of the Minsk City Executive Committee.

At the main railway station in Minsk, law enforcement officers noticed a man on a lighting tower.

From the way he moved, it became clear that he intended to jump off, which would lead to certain death. Additional forces were called, and employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and an ambulance also arrived at the scene.

Seeing them, the man became nervous and stepped over the fence several times with the intention of jumping off. He did not enter into negotiations, did not answer questions, he only explained that he was here because of a conflict with a girl with whom he arrived in the morning from Svetlogorsk. He refused to communicate with anyone, only demanded to be left alone. The situation was complicated by the fact that rails were laid under the tower, and high-voltage wires were around. Trains that regularly passed under the tower also posed a danger.

In this situation, the initiative was taken by the deputy commander of the OMON of the Central Internal Affairs Directorate, police lieutenant colonel Alexei Tarasov. Being in civilian clothes, he was able to approach the tower under the guise of a railway worker. Having come into contact with a man, he professionally built a dialogue.

The potential suicide first allowed the lieutenant colonel to approach the tower, and then climb it. Having risen, the law enforcement officer suggested that the man was under the influence of drugs, and also made sure of the seriousness of his intentions. However, thanks to the actions of the policeman, the man abandoned his intentions. At present, he has been delivered to the duty unit of the Internal Affairs Directorate by rail.
