In the winter of 1944, the fascist troops attempted another, and which became the last, major offensive operation against the Allied forces on the Western Front. The unexpected and brazen attack of the troops of the Third Reich caught the allied armies by surprise. In the early morning of December 16, two thousand German soldiers and a thousand tanks, on the orders of Hitler, went on the offensive against the Anglo-American troops stationed within the Belgian Ardennes.
The German headquarters hope to push the enemy back to the English Channel, separating the Allied forces, and thus turn the tide of World War II. On the way to the Ardennes, the Germans got stuck in impenetrable forests, where there are no roads. The front line stretches for 120 kilometers, which is defended by inexperienced American recruits, exhausted by the war.
Stalin decides to send Soviet troops to help the Allies. A responsible task is entrusted to Lieutenant Kappa. His platoon must take up a defensive position at a strategically important crossroads, breaking through which the Germans can carry out their plan. Christmas is coming, Soviet soldiers, in short moments of respite, remember their mothers, wives, and children. It is these memories that give the exhausted defenders strength and hope for an early Victory.
