A Lithuanian aircraft violated the state border of Belarus on Wednesday, April 19. The incident occurred during the day: at 13:40, the plane deepened into the territory of the republic, three minutes later it turned around and left the airspace of the country. According to the Ministry of Defense, the violation occurred near the Belarusian nuclear power plant under construction. Most likely, the plane was controlled by a civilian. The aircraft was controlled by air defense systems.
“Despite good-neighborly relations with the Republic of Lithuania, I would like Lithuania to understand the importance of fulfilling agreements, comply with international law, and prevent such violations on its part. The Air Force and Air Defense Forces, if such cases are repeated, will be forced to apply forceful measures of influence, ”Dvigalev said on the air of the Voen-TV channel.
He expressed hope that the pilot of the plane made an unintentional mistake and did not specifically plan his flight to the territory of Belarus. “I hope that the Lithuanian side will confirm this,” Dvigalev continued.
Earlier it was reported that the Belarusian Foreign Ministry handed the Lithuanian ambassador a note of protest in connection with the incident. As emphasized in the note of the Foreign Ministry, the Belarusian side is waiting for clarification on the incident.
