The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has banned athletes from Russia from using national symbols on their uniforms during the 2018 Olympic Games in PyeongChang.
According to the ruling, Russian athletes will not be able to use any symbols for national identification. The coat of arms of the country and the emblem of the Russian Olympic Committee should be replaced by the Olympic rings.
On December 5, the IOC Executive Committee suspended the Russian team from participating in the Olympics. Only “clean” athletes without a doping history under the Olympic flag and in the special status of “Olympic Athletes of Russia” will be able to take part in the Games.
The decision on admission will be made by a special commission. Athletes wishing to compete in the Games must meet all eligibility criteria, have a “clean” doping history and be regularly tested for prohibited substances.
The Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang will be held from February 9 to 25, 2018.
