There will be a super moon on the first night

On January 1, the supermoon will come - the moon will be 14% larger and 30% brighter, the NASA press service reports.

The supermoon will be visible from the evening of January 1 until the morning of January 2. Once a year, the Moon shows its bright disk very large and once very small.

When the Moon in the full moon phase passes the perigee point, i.e., is at a minimum distance from the Earth, such a full moon is called the supermoon of the year.

A supermoon is an unusual astronomical phenomenon when, during a full moon or a new moon, the Moon approaches the Earth closer than usual. The reason is the elliptical orbit of the moon. It turns out to be either further from the Earth - a micromoon (406 thousand km), then closer - a supermoon (357 thousand km).

The last supermoon was in the sky on the night of December 13-14, 2016. The celestial body was so brightly illuminated by the Sun that it eclipsed the Geminid meteor shower that was coming to Earth during this period.

After that, it will be possible to observe the supermoon on January 31, and it will coincide in time with a total lunar eclipse.

Traditional healers and healers preferred to collect herbs on the brightest nights. They believed that the juices of all plants were attracted to the moon and overwhelmed the leaves, flowers and stems. Some mystics still believe that on such nights a person can turn into a beast, and witches go to the sabbath.
