"The Law of Judgment to People" is the oldest monument of Russian law. Preserved in manuscripts of Russian origin ("The Pilot Chronicle"). Dated to. IX - n. 10th century Many of his articles were directed against paganism.
REFERENCE: The Thessalonica brothers Cyril and Methodius saw their mission not only in bringing the “light of the gospel truth” to the Slavs by any means. Few people know that Saint Methodius, in addition to being a voivode, also took an active part in compiling the so-called Bulgarian "Law of judgment for people."
"The law of judgment for people" is one of the most ancient written legislative monuments that has survived among the Slavic peoples. It was created in Bulgaria during the reign of Boris shortly after the adoption of Christianity by the Bulgarians in 865. It was also used on the territory of pagan Rus'.
The first paragraph of this "philanthropic" document sounds like this:
“Every village in which there are rituals or incantations of filthy (pagan) is given to God's temple with all the property. If there are gentlemen in that village and perform rituals and (pronounce) spells, they are sold with all their property, and the price is given to the poor.
We translate into modern Russian. Any village, village, farm where glorious philanthropic, carrying "light" Christian warriors (well ... let's say with the same governor Methodius) entered and saw pagan rites - is automatically outlawed and can be given to the Christian Church for free.
Again. The whole village, village, farm, settlement, where only suspicions arose of the presence of paganism, for free into the possession of the Church: with women, men, children, houses, belongings, lands ... Without discrimination and mercy. In serfs, in church slavery.
Can you imagine what an incentive for the troops of the voivode Methodius and his ilk. A very lucrative crusade. Whoever is not with us ideologically is already a slave. For a pagan, according to the “Law of Judgment to People,” has no right a priori. Immediately into the serfs ... assigned to the church, to work as laborers.
And that's what's amazing! The angry sermons of “Saint” Methodius to the authorities of Great Moravia, which he had just baptized, with the requirement to strictly observe this particular article of the “Law ...” have been preserved.
Few people know that in the VI-IX centuries, the Slavs populated the Balkans almost entirely. Not only in the lands of present-day Bulgaria and Yugoslavia, but even in the Peloponnese, the Slavic peoples of the Milings and Jezeriches lived, calling their native peninsula Morea. Recalling those times, Emperor Constantine Porphyrogenitus wrote in the 10th century: "The whole country was glorified, barbaric." However, not the slightest mention has been preserved that the pagan Slavs did at least some kind of oppression to the Greek Christians on a religious or national basis. Well, except that they interfered with the extermination of fellow tribesmen who remained faithful to the religion of their ancestors.
In the same Peloponnese, Emperor Constantine mentions the city of Maina with its surroundings, where until the end of the 9th century - until the time of our prophetic Oleg! - the Hellenes honored their Olympic gods, at the end of this century the Balkans and the Peloponnese returned under the rule of the Second Rome.
And a hundred years later, the Slavs of Morea are remembered in the past tense. What happened to them? "The Law of Judgment to the People". And "saint" Methodius...
Domestic Slavophiles, who so loved to commemorate the “evil Catholics” of the destroyed Bodrichians, Luticians and Prussians, did not mention in a word those who, with the blessing of the Orthodox saint Equal-to-the-Apostles Methodius, sold them to Arabs and Persians by entire villages ...
I. Before all righteousness, it is worthy to speak of God's righteousness. Therefore, Saint Constantine, having written the first law, is passed on as he said: Every village in which there are detachments or incantations of filthy people is given to God's temple with all its property. If there are gentlemen in that village and perform rituals and (pronounce) incantations, they are sold with all their property, and the price is given to the poor.
II. In any dispute and accusations and statements, the prince and “judges” should not listen without witnesses (rumours) of many, but speak to those who argue - both accusers and applicants - if you do not present witnesses, as the law of God commands, accept the same execution, expect what cooked for others; God's law says so, and whoever does not observe this will be damned.
III. About military booty. Going to battle with adversaries (enemies), it is appropriate to beware of all hostile words and deeds, direct your thoughts to God and create prayer and fight in a clear consciousness, for help is given from God to bright hearts. Not from greater strength victory in battle, but in God a fortress. And after God has given the victory, the prince should take the sixth part, and all the people will take the rest, dividing it equally between the great and the small. Zhupan 2 has enough of the princely part, and the rest is added to the human share. If some of them are found 3 or ordinary people who have shown courage, performed feats and brave deeds, then they receive from the prince or governor from the indicated princely share who was there at that time. And let it be given as it is right, and divided among them into parts. Let the participants in the battle receive
IV. If a man has his own wife and enters into cohabitation with a slave who turns out to be dishonest, then she should be sold from the prince of that land to another land, and her price should be given to the poor. It is the same for the one who commits fornication [328] according to God's law to distance himself from God's servants in fasting for seven years ... It is also appropriate to be only on bread and water for seven years.
V. Whoever commits fornication with someone else's slave gives 30 stolenz 4 to the owner of the slave, and he himself is subject to fasting for 7 years, as was said, but she herself is not for sale. If he is poor, then his property is forcibly given to the owner of that slave, and he himself is subject to the specified post.
VI. A monk who commits fornication should, according to secular law, have his nose cut off, and according to church law, he is entitled to fast for 15 years.
