Triglav or Trinity - The Roots of the Feast

Foreign chroniclers considered Triglav one of the numerous host of Slavic gods, not realizing that the very essence of our ancient faith was expressed in this most important symbol: God is one, but he has many manifestations. Most often, these are three main entities: Svarog, Perun and Svyatovit (Sventovit).

In addition to the triglavs of the worlds, there are the Great Triglavs of times. These are the Great Triglav Patrons of Autumn, Winter, and Spring.

Moreover, if God the Father, God the Son and the Holy Spirit are present in the Christian trinity, then there is no such unambiguous division in the Great Triglavs. Gods and Goddesses can be in different relationships.

And what is characteristic, each Great Triglav brings to people a collection of unique qualities related to different worlds, or to different times. While the Christian trinity has temporal and spatial constancy.

As for the coincidence in the time of the celebration, the answer here is very simple, it was necessary to replace the old faith with a new religion. That is why there was an imposition of the new, with the subsequent displacement of the ancient essence.

And this was not done all at once, but gradually, from generation to generation.

In the fourth century, at the second Council of Constantinople, the dogma of a single God in three persons was approved - God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

The word "trinity" appears in the updated Holy Scriptures in 1215.

In Rus', the celebration of Holy Pentecost began in the 14th century. Then this holiday began to be called Trinity Day.

In 1652, under Patriarch Nikon, new church rites were approved at the Stoglavy Cathedral. Including the replacement of two-fingered by three-fingered, as a symbol of the trinity.

As you can see, the Christian holiday Trinity became such only in the second half of the 17th century, but under the name Pentecost they began to celebrate it three centuries earlier. By some "incredible" chance, Pentecost coincided with the days of glorification of the ancient Slavic Great Triglavs.

As one saying goes - Everything is accidental, it is a natural result of the execution of a well-thought-out one.
